Biography
Amos O'Neal is a Democratic State Representative for Michigan's 94th House District, which includes Bridgeport Township, Buena Vista Charter Township, Carrollton Township, Saginaw City, Saginaw Township, and Spaulding Township. Born on July 17, 1961, in Saginaw, Michigan, he is currently serving his third term after first being elected in 2020, reelected in 2022 and 2024. As a widow with three children , O'Neal is known for his work on criminal justice reform, workforce support, and public health. Notable positions include Democratic Caucus Chair , Vice Chair of the House Appropriations Committee , and Chair of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Corrections and Judiciary. Awards include the Milliken Award for criminal justice reform, 2024 Sickle Cell Champion of the Year, Legislator of the Year from multiple organizations , 2024 Friend of Public Health Award, and 2024 County Advocate Award.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Attended Delta College for 2 years and Northwood University for 4 years.
- Political Experience: Served on Saginaw City Council for 13 years , Saginaw County Board of Commissioners for 4 years, and Saginaw Board of Education. Current committees: Appropriations , with subcommittees on Corrections and Judiciary , Development and Natural Resources, and Public Health. Previously chaired Saginaw County Commission’s Committee on Health and Human Services and served on Michigan Works! boards. Community involvement includes First Ward Community Center, Boy Scouts of America, Parishioners on Patrol, Airport, Community Action Center, and Tri City Zoning.
