Biography
Amanda Parsons Cook is a Democratic member of the North Carolina House of Representatives representing District 60, which includes Guilford County. She was appointed to the seat on November 18, 2025, following Cecil Brockman's resignation, and subsequently won a four-way Democratic primary with 42.46% of the vote to retain the position.
Before her appointment to the state legislature, Cook served as an at-large councilwoman for the High Point City Council, where she advocated for community needs including childcare expansion, solar integration, and arts development.
Education
Cook earned a Bachelor of Arts in dance education with a minor in communication studies from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 2008. She later obtained a Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction and Teacher Leadership from Gardner-Webb University in July 2021.
Political Experience
Cook worked as a dance teacher in the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools system from 2008 to 2017 and at Southwest Guilford High School from 2017 to 2021, before founding the nonprofit Teachers' Edge, which she currently directs.
In addition to her House service, Cook has been involved in community leadership through board positions on the Guilford County Partnership for Children Board and the Every Baby Guilford Steering Committee. During her tenure on the High Point City Council, she successfully secured funding for the High Point Schools Partnership, Youth Focus, and the TEAMS eviction mediation program. Her legislative priorities focus on education, housing, environmental protection, and racial equity initiatives, including implementation of the One High Point Commission on reparations.
