Biography
Senator Amanda M. Cappelletti is a Democratic member of the Pennsylvania State Senate representing District 17, which covers parts of Montgomery and Delaware Counties, including areas like Radnor, Haverford, Lower Merion, Norristown, and Blue Bell. A lifelong Pennsylvania resident born and raised in Boyertown, she is an attorney and public health advocate who prioritizes progressive policies on reproductive rights, climate change, gun violence prevention, police reform, and election access. She resides in East Norriton with her husband, Gregory McQuiston, a U.S. Navy veteran. Notable achievements include serving as Democratic Chair of the Senate State Government Committee, leading marijuana decriminalization on the East Norriton Board of Supervisors, and sponsoring legislation for rental protections, safe firearm storage with waiting periods, 100% renewable energy , and infertility insurance coverage.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Graduated from Boyertown Area Senior High School; earned a bachelor's degree from Chestnut Hill College; obtained a law degree and Master's in Public Health from Temple University.
- Political Experience: Elected to East Norriton Board of Supervisors in 2017, where she advanced police reform and marijuana decriminalization; worked in Harrisburg with Rep. Donna Bullock, as an ACLU-PA Fellow, in the Governor’s William Penn Fellowship , and as Director of Policy for Planned Parenthood; elected to PA Senate and sworn in for a second term on January 7, 2025.
