Biography
Alyssa Black is a Democratic member of the Vermont House of Representatives representing Chittenden-24 district, based in Essex, Vermont. Born in Fredonia, New York, she moved to Vermont in 1990 and settled in Essex in 1995 with her family, including her ex-husband Rob Black and their three children . A healthcare administrator with over 25 years at a family practice serving more than 16,000 residents, she is also a small business owner managing Essex Automotive. Notable achievements include sponsoring H.230 , which became law on gun violence prevention following her son Andrew's 2018 suicide; receiving the Vermont Medical Society’s Citizen of the Year Award twice; and serving as Chair of the House Health Care Committee.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Graduated from Fredonia High School in New York and attended the University of Vermont.
- Political Experience: Elected in November 2020, assumed office January 6, 2021, succeeding Robert Bancroft; currently in her third term . Emerge America alum ; leads on health care reform, suicide prevention, and gun safety legislation; serves on Health Reform Oversight Committee .
