Biography

Allison Tant is a Democratic State Representative for Florida House District 9, which includes parts of Leon County, all of Jefferson County, and most of Madison County. First elected in 2020 and reelected subsequently, her terms extend through 2028. Born in Jacksonville, Florida, she resides in Tallahassee with her husband, attorney Barry Richard, three children, and two stepchildren. She is the founder of Independence Landing , an affordable housing option for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and serves on various boards including the Challenger Learning Center and the Anti-Defamation League of Florida regional representative. In 2013, she was inducted into the Tallahassee Democrat’s "25 Women You Need to Know."

Education and Political Experience

Education: Florida State University, BA in Communications and BS in Psychology .

Political Experience: Ranking member of the House Post-Secondary Education & Workforce Committee and Commerce Committee; member of Ways & Means, Rules, Health Care Regulation, Insurance & Banking Committees, and previously the Select Committee on Hurricane Recovery and Resiliency. Prior roles include Founding Chair Emeritus for KEYS , a scholarship program for students with disabilities, where she helped establish programs like TCC Eagle Connections, SOAR job certification, and ACE Summer Institute. She previously served on the Children's Home Society Central Division Board , including as Board Chair and Advocacy Committee Chair . Active in community organizations such as Tallahassee Rotary Club, Capital Women’s Network, and Tiger Bay.
