Alicia Jayne Rule serves as a Democratic state representative for Washington's 42nd Legislative District, Position 1, first elected in 2020 and taking office on January 11, 2021; she was re-elected in 2022 and 2024. Her family has deep roots in Whatcom County for five generations, with great-grandparents from Holland, grandparents who owned a farm in Sumas, a truck-driver father, and a mother working in healthcare. A social worker, mental health professional, and owner of Rule and Associates psychotherapy practice, she has supported families with adoptions, abused children, disabled individuals, and hospice patients. Previously, she served on the Blaine City Council and as president of the Blaine Downtown Alliance . She is a mother of three boys. Notable achievements include sponsoring legislation for homeless children, outdoor education in schools , Main Street support, and "Parkscriptions" for park time as health prescriptions; she holds positions as Vice Chair of the Early Learning & Human Services Committee and serves on Capital Budget and Education committees.
