About
Alfonso Lopez is a Democrat representing District 3 in the Virginia House of Delegates. A lifelong Democrat and activist born on July 28, 1970, he has over 30 years of federal and Virginia legislative experience serving Northern Virginia, including Arlington County, Fairfax County, and Alexandria City. First elected in 2011 as the first Latino Democrat in the Virginia General Assembly, he became a seven-term member starting in 2012, initially for District 49 before District 3. Notable achievements include championing the Virginia Housing Trust Fund, Small Business Investment Grant Fund, preregistration for 16- and 17-year-olds to vote, Virginia LGBTQ+ Advisory Board, and raising the nonresidential solar net metering cap. He founded the Virginia Latino Caucus in 2018, served as Majority and Minority Whip , Campaign Chair and Political Director , and currently chairs the House Workforce & Labor Committee and the environmental issues committee. Other roles include Obama Administration political appointee , Kaine Administration cabinet-level appointee, Superdelegate/PLEO at the DNC, and Virginia delegate to Democratic National Conventions.
