Representative Alex Ybarra

Alex Ybarra is a Republican state representative for Washington's 13th Legislative District , serving portions of Grant, Kittitas, Yakima, and Lincoln counties since his initial appointment and subsequent election in 2019.

Alex Ybarra is a lifelong resident of Quincy, Washington, and serves as Minority Caucus Vice Chair in the House of Representatives. His legislative priorities focus on protecting taxpayers, funding schools, creating family-wage jobs, addressing water issues, and supporting agriculture. He is the ranking member of the Postsecondary Education and Workforce Committee, assistant ranking member of the Labor and Workplace Standards Committee, and serves on the Environment and Energy Committee. Ybarra has announced his candidacy for the 13th District state Senate seat. He has one grown daughter, Micaela, and maintains a commitment to conservative principles while engaging in bipartisan efforts.

Education and Political Experience

  • Education: Earned a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from Central Washington University and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Phoenix.
  • Professional Experience: Worked 14 years as an engineer for Rocket Research Company on military and aerospace products; 16 years at Grant County Public Utility District in leadership and analyst roles.
  • Political Experience: Served on the Quincy School Board from 2011 ; former vice president of the Washington State School Directors Association; appointed by the governor in 2016 to the State Commission on Hispanic Affairs; entered the Washington House initially by appointment, elected in 2019 following Matt Manweller's departure.
