Alex Ramel is a Democratic state representative for Washington's 40th Legislative District , which includes San Juan County and parts of Whatcom and Skagit Counties. Born in 1977 in Denver, Colorado, he is a single father to his son Alden and a former community organizer focused on climate, housing, and energy issues. Appointed to the Washington House of Representatives in January 2020 following Jeff Morris's resignation, he was elected in 2020 and reelected since. Notable achievements include serving as Majority Whip and leading legislation on scenic bike routes, energy efficiency in public buildings, electric vehicle infrastructure, green hydrogen, clean appliances, fossil fuel transitions in buildings, and affordable housing via multi-family tax exemptions.
