Alan Silvia is a Democratic member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives, representing the 7th Bristol District in Fall River since 2013. Born on October 11, 1951, in Fall River, he is a lifelong resident of the city and a Vietnam-era veteran of the United States Marine Corps, where he served in Southeast Asia from 1970 to 1972 and received an honorable discharge. A retired Fall River Police Department major crimes detective with 21 years of service , Silvia investigated high-profile cases including homicides, rapes, and a notorious Satanic cult-linked prostitution ring in the 1980s. He has one child, three grandchildren, and one pet. Notable achievements include developing a sexual abuse prevention curriculum for Fall River schools, securing over $300,000 for the Joseph A. Marshall Veterans Center at Bristol Community College, and extensive constituent services for jobs, housing, and healthcare in one of Massachusetts' poorest communities. He currently serves as Vice-Chair of the Joint Committee on Public Safety and Homeland Security and sits on the House Ways and Means Committee, with prior roles including Vice-Chair of Veterans and Federal Affairs.
