Karis is a teacher in Greenville County Schools and orchestra director at Morningside Baptist Church, where Alan serves as a deacon and small group leader. He works as Director of Sales & Technology for a small family-run business. Notable achievements include his election to complete an open term in District 18 on June 15, 2022, followed by re-election to a full term in November 2022. He is a member of the South Carolina Freedom Caucus and serves on the Agriculture, Natural Resources & Environmental Affairs Committee.
