Alan Baker (0066)

Representative Alan Baker is a Republican serving Alabama House District 66, which includes portions of Baldwin County and Escambia County. Born in Brewton, Alabama, on July 15, 1956, he was elected to the Alabama House of Representatives in 2006. Notable achievements include a 27-year career in public education as a teacher and coach, where his teams won 10 state championships , leading to his induction into the Alabama High School Athletic Association Sports Hall of Fame in 2008; he retired from education in 2005. Baker has also been honored by the Southern Regional Education Board for his education work and leadership roles, including vice chair and chair of its Legislative Advisory Council.

Education and Political Experience

Education: Graduated from T.R. Miller High School in Brewton; associate degree from East Central Community College in Decatur, Mississippi; bachelor’s degree in history from Auburn University in 1978.

Political Experience: Elected to the Alabama House in 2006; current committee roles include Chair of Local Legislation, Vice Chair of Education Policy, member of Ways and Means Education, Baldwin County Legislation, Permanent Joint Legislative Committee on Finances and Budget, Joint Transportation Committee, Permanent Joint Legislative Advisory Committee on Economic Incentives, Permanent Joint Legislative Committee on Energy Policy, and Joint Legislative Advisory Committee on Community Service Grants. Serves on the Southern Regional Education Board’s executive committee since 2012, with prior leadership as vice chair and chair of its Legislative Advisory Council.
