Alabas Farhat is a Democratic member of the Michigan House of Representatives, representing the 3rd District since 2023. The district includes most of east and central Dearborn and parts of northwest Detroit. He was elected in 2022 and reelected in 2024. Farhat, raised in Dearborn, focuses on public service, prioritizing public safety, economic development, and infrastructure. Notable actions include supporting road safety, school safety, and violence prevention measures, as well as sponsoring House Resolution 228 to declare April 2024 as Arab-American Heritage Month. In 2025, he broke party lines to vote for enforcing a federal ban on transgender girls in women's sports at the state level.
