Biography
Al Taylor is a Democratic member of the New York State Assembly representing the 71st District, which covers portions of Harlem, Hamilton Heights, Washington Heights, and Inwood in New York City. He has served since winning a special election in fall 2017, following roles as Chief of Staff to former Assemblyman Herman “Denny” Farrell, Jr., District Leader, community organizer, and minister. Notable achievements include sponsoring laws on childcare anaphylaxis policies, the Law Enforcement Misconduct Investigative Office, lithium-ion battery emergency protocols, and the “Make Voting Easy Act”; he also walked 780 miles to Chicago in the “It’s A Love Thing Always” peace march, advocated after the Islan Nettles murder, and helped pass the Jose Peralta New York State DREAM Act. He holds positions such as Assistant Speaker Pro Tempore and previously chaired Democratic House Operations .
