Biography

Senator Akilah Weber Pierson represents California State Senate District 39 in San Diego County, including cities such as San Diego, Coronado, Del Mar, La Mesa, Lemon Grove, Spring Valley/La Presa, and parts of El Cajon. A 47-year-old board-certified obstetrician/gynecologist specializing in pediatric and adolescent gynecology, she is a San Diego native, former La Mesa City Councilmember, and mother of two boys. Notable achievements include founding and directing the Pediatric & Adolescent Gynecology Division at Rady Children's Hospital-San Diego, serving as Assistant Clinical Professor at UCSD, implementing La Mesa's Climate Action Plan, creating a Community Police Oversight Board and homelessness task force, and frontline COVID-19 public health efforts. She succeeded her mother, Shirley Weber, in the Legislature, serving in the Assembly before moving to the Senate .   • Political Experience: Elected to La Mesa City Council, focusing on climate action, police oversight, and homelessness. Elected to California Assembly District 79 in April 2021; advanced to Senate District 39 in 2024. Active in community boards and STEM programs for underrepresented youth. Member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and The Links, Incorporated. In the current session, initiated 38 bills .
