About
Aerion Andrew Abney is a Democratic member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, serving the 19th District since 2022. The district includes parts of Pittsburgh in Allegheny County, such as Wards 1, 2 , 3, and 4 . A Philadelphia native, he moved to Pittsburgh at age 18. Before entering politics, Abney worked as a social worker, community activist, program officer at the POISE Foundation , and Pennsylvania director of special projects for All Voting Is Local, advocating for expanded voting rights including for incarcerated Pennsylvanians. He serves on boards including the Hill District Federal Credit Union, Human Services Center Corp., and African American Achievement Trust Collective Focus advisory board, and is part of the My Brother’s Keeper taskforce and Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc. Abney twice ran unsuccessfully against incumbent Rep. Jake Wheatley before winning a 2022 special election after Wheatley's resignation.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Earned a bachelor’s degree in communications and a master’s degree in social work from the University of Pittsburgh.
