Adriane Johnson
Adriane Johnson is an American politician serving as a member of the Illinois Senate from the 30th district. She was appointed to the Senate on October 11, 2020, succeeding Terry Link. Johnson is the first African-American state senator to represent Lake County, Illinois.
The 30th district encompasses a mixture of urban communities and small towns north of Chicago, including all or parts of Beach Park, Buffalo Grove, Green Oaks, Gurnee, Libertyville, Lincolnshire, Mundelein, North Chicago, Park City, Riverwoods, Vernon Hills, Waukegan, and Wheeling.
Johnson resides in Buffalo Grove, Illinois, and is married to Bruce with one adult daughter.
Education
Johnson holds a Bachelor of Liberal Studies degree from Columbia College and a Master of Jurisprudence from Loyola University Chicago School of Law.
Political Experience
Prior to her appointment to the Illinois Senate, Johnson built an extensive record of public service in the northern suburbs:
- Served as President and Vice President of the Buffalo Grove Park District Board of Commissioners for more than ten years
- Served as past Chairman of the Illinois Association of Park Districts, where she held leadership roles including vice chair and chair-elect
- Served on the Buffalo Grove Board of Fire and Police Commissioners for six years
- Served as President, Vice President, and Secretary of the Buffalo Grove-Lincolnshire Chamber of Commerce
- Currently serves as a member of the Rotary Club of Buffalo Grove
As a state senator, Johnson serves on multiple Illinois Senate committees including Appropriations, Behavioral and Mental Health, Commerce, Environment and Conservation, Ethics, Public Safety, Transportation, and Redistricting. She has also championed legislation addressing medical education in perimenopause and menopause care, as well as domestic violence prevention and digital abuse protections.
