Adrian Boafo

Adrian Asiedu Boafo was born on May 10, 1994, in Arlington, Virginia. He is a Democratic politician who has served as a member of the Maryland House of Delegates representing the 23rd district in Prince George's County since January 11, 2023.

Before his election to the state legislature, Boafo served in local government in Bowie, Maryland, where he was elected at age 25 to the City Council. He served as Mayor Pro Tem and District 3 Council Member from 2019 to 2022, becoming the youngest to hold both positions. During his tenure, he helped launch a public safety camera rebate program with the Bowie Police Department and secured $2 million in federal funding to upgrade Old Bowie's water infrastructure.

In the Maryland House of Delegates, Boafo has served on the Economic Matters Committee and was appointed Assistant Majority Leader in 2024. He currently chairs the Workers' Compensation Subcommittee and serves on the Land Use and Zoning Subcommittee. He is a member of the Legislative Black Caucus of Maryland and the Maryland Legislative Latino Caucus.

Education

Boafo earned his Bachelor of Arts in Government and Public Policy from the University of Baltimore in 2016 and his MBA from American University's Kogod School of Business in 2019. He attended DeMatha Catholic High School in Hyattsville, Maryland.

Political Experience

Boafo began his career on Capitol Hill as a press intern with the House Democratic Caucus under Representative Xavier Becerra. He later worked as a National Press Assistant for U.S. Representative Ruben Kihuen. For three years, he served as Campaign Manager for Steny Hoyer's congressional organization from 2019 to 2021.

During his first term in the state legislature, Boafo introduced and passed landmark legislation on wage theft protections and a bill improving mental health care access for students at Maryland's colleges and universities. He has championed policies on housing equity, tobacco reduction, climate action, and economic opportunity. In the 2026 legislative session, he introduced a bill to raise Maryland's minimum wage from $15 to $25 per hour and eliminate subminimum wages.

Currently, Boafo is the Senior Director of Government Affairs at Oracle Corporation. He is running for the U.S. House of Representatives in Maryland's 5th congressional district and has received the endorsement of retiring incumbent Steny Hoyer.
