About
Abraham Aiyash is a Democratic member of the Michigan House of Representatives, currently serving as Majority Floor Leader. He represented House District 9 after his 2022 reelection, and previously represented House District 4 following his initial election in 2020. Born to Yemeni immigrant parents—a UAW auto worker father and homemaker mother—he grew up in a working-class family in Hamtramck, Michigan. Notable achievements include being Michigan's first Muslim in House majority leadership, the first Arab American to serve as majority floor leader in any U.S. state legislature, and the youngest person to hold this position in Michigan history. His priorities encompass protecting rights, addressing social and health disparities, clean energy, environmental stewardship, and consumer protections; he was key in passing major clean energy legislation in 2024.
