Biography of Representative Abby Major

Abigail E. Major is a Republican member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives representing the 60th district, which encompasses parts of Armstrong and Westmoreland counties. She was first elected in a special election in May 2021 and assumed office on June 7, 2021, succeeding Jeff Pyle. She was reelected for a full term in 2022.

Major is a native of Armstrong County and resides in Leechburg with her daughter, Eliza. Her political focus centers on cutting government spending and protecting Second Amendment rights.

Education

Major graduated from Ford City High School in 2003. She holds a Bachelor of Mortuary Science degree from the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science and a Bachelor of Science in mortuary science and funeral service from Southern Illinois University .

Political Experience

Before her election to the Pennsylvania House, Major worked for ten years in the district office of State Representative Jeff Pyle, progressing from a legislative assistant to chief of staff. She continues to work as a licensed funeral director at the Curran-Shaffer Funeral Home.

In the current legislative session, Major serves on several House committees: Consumer Protection, Technology and Utilities; Housing and Community Development; Intergovernmental Affairs and Operations; Liquor Control; and Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness.

Military Service

Major served three years in the United States Army as an intelligence analyst from 2004 to 2007, including a 12-month deployment to Iraq. She received the National Defense Medal, Global War on Terrorism Medal, Iraq Campaign Service Medal, and the Overseas Service Ribbon.
