Senator Aaron Rouse

Aaron Roosevelt Rouse was born on January 8, 1984, in Norfolk, Virginia. He grew up in Hampton Roads and was raised by his single mother. Starting at just 10 years old, he began working to help support his family by mowing lawns and taking on other jobs.

Before his political career, Rouse was a professional football player, serving as a safety in both the National Football League and the United Football League .

Education

Rouse is an alumnus of Virginia Tech, where he completed his undergraduate education.

Political Experience

Rouse is a member of the Democratic Party and currently represents District 22 in the Virginia State Senate, which includes parts of Virginia Beach.

His political career began at the local level. From 2019 to 2022, he served on the Virginia Beach City Council, representing an at-large seat after being elected in 2018. During his council tenure, he partnered with the Department of Justice and Virginia Beach Police Department to strengthen community trust and create safer neighborhood spaces.

In January 2023, Rouse won a special election to the Virginia State Senate, narrowly defeating Republican Kevin H. Adams and flipping the seat for Democrats. Since entering the state legislature, he has focused on reducing crime and championing gun safety legislation.

In 2024, Rouse announced his candidacy for the 2025 Virginia lieutenant gubernatorial election, though he finished third in the primary.

Rouse is married to Jennifer Valentine Rouse.
