AB 570 — Summary (2025, Chapter 401)

Purpose

AB 570 makes targeted appropriations from the State General Fund to the Nevada Department of Corrections (NDOC) to replace and upgrade vehicles, information technology, medical/dental equipment, furniture and other equipment, and to fund equipment and training for correctional officers.

All sums are appropriated to NDOC budget accounts. Unspent balances are subject to limited carryforward and mandatory reversion deadlines (see “Fiscal/timeline”).

  • Note: Section 12 becomes effective July 1, 2026 (see effective dates).

Fiscal, carryforward and reversion rules

• Appropriations come from the State General Fund and were included in the Executive Budget.
• For many appropriations, any balance remaining at the end of the fiscal year must not be committed after June 30 of that fiscal year; remaining amounts must not be spent after specified September dates and must revert to the State General Fund by those September dates (generally Sept. 18, 2026; Sept. 17, 2027, or Sept. 17, 2027, depending on the section).
• Sections 1–11 take effect July 1, 2025. Section 12 takes effect July 1, 2026.

Who is affected / operational impact

• Primary recipient: Nevada Department of Corrections (various NDOC budget accounts: Prison Medical Care, Office of the Director, Correctional Programs).
• Purpose is operational/ capital equipment and training improvements—no direct impact on local governments.
• Intended to modernize vehicle fleets, replace worn medical, food-service and office equipment, upgrade IT infrastructure and provide training/equipment for correctional staff.

Notable changes during consideration

• Earlier drafts included funding for Internet connectivity at Ely State Prison and Carlin Conservation Camp; that provision was deleted in amendments.
• Funding amounts and specific line-item scope were adjusted across amendments (e.g., the larger $801,320 line for multiple trucks was amended down to $225,750 for refrigerator trucks only).
