Biography
Seth Michael Magaziner is an American politician serving as the U.S. Representative for Rhode Island's 2nd Congressional District since January 3, 2023. A member of the Democratic Party, he succeeded James Langevin in this role. Prior to his congressional tenure, Magaziner served as Rhode Island's General Treasurer from 2015 to 2023.
Born and raised in Bristol, Rhode Island, Magaziner began his career as a public school teacher in rural Louisiana through Teach For America. He later transitioned into finance, working as a vice president at Trillium Asset Management, a socially responsible investment firm.
As General Treasurer, Magaziner spearheaded initiatives to rebuild school infrastructure across Rhode Island and launched clean energy programs that created thousands of jobs and reduced energy costs for residents.
In Congress, Magaziner focuses on protecting Social Security and Medicare, reducing prescription drug prices, and defending reproductive rights. He serves on the House Committee on Homeland Security and the House Committee on Natural Resources.
