Phara Souffrant Forrest is a nurse, an educator, and a proud Haitian-American. She was born in New York after her family fled the oppressive Duvalier regime in Haiti. Forrest put herself through nursing school while raising her son as a single mother. She earned her Master's in nursing education and now teaches at her alma mater. Forrest won an upset victory for the New York State Senate in 2020 after beating a six-term incumbent. Her campaign focused on healthcare, education, affordable housing, and criminal justice reform.
