Biography
Representative Justin Moed
Justin Moed is a Democratic member of the Indiana House of Representatives. Born in 1983 or 1984, he resides on the south side of Indianapolis, where he is a homeowner. Outside of his legislative duties, Moed owns and manages an urban farm. He is actively involved in various community groups and organizations. His civic appointments include serving on the IUPUI Board of Advisors, the White River State Park Commission, and the State Tourism Council.
In March 2015, Moed was involved in a controversy involving explicit communications with adult film actress Sydney Leathers. Reports indicated he sent money and gifts during the exchange. Moed later apologized for the incident.
Education
Moed attended Butler University in Indianapolis. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in 2006.
Political Experience
Moed began his career at the Indiana Statehouse working as a doorkeeper for the Indiana House of Representatives. He advanced within the legislature to the position of senior policy analyst before seeking elected office.
Legislative Career
Moed was first elected to the Indiana House of Representatives in 2012 and began representing District 97 in 2013. The district covers portions of Marion County in Central Indiana. He has been re-elected multiple times, with contests occurring in 2012, 2016, 2020, and 2022, while running unopposed in 2014 and 2018.
Within the House, Moed serves as the Democratic Whip. He is the ranking minority member of the Public Policy Committee and also serves on the Agriculture and Rural Development Committee and the Local Government Committee. Known for working across party lines, his legislative focus includes economic development, addressing the abandoned housing crisis, government accountability, and promoting mass transit.
