ABOUT
Joseph M. Bustos was born in Freeport, Illinois in 1983, to Mexican migrant farm working parents. He grew up in a small rural farm town with his 7 siblings. During his childhood, many of the local family farms were being shut down, causing families to move away, storefronts boarded up, and local schools consolidated. After high school graduation, Joseph joined the U.S. Army. He was deployed to Iraq where he conducted over 100 combat patrols and air assault missions as an infantry squad leader. He received a Combat Infantryman Badge and two Army Commendation Medals for his service. After being honorably discharged in 2007, he attended Illinois State University on the G.I. Bill. He graduated in 2012 with a Bachelor of Science degree.read less
