Biography
Jason Petrie
Jason Kelly Petrie was born on February 27, 1971, and is a Republican member of the Kentucky House of Representatives. He represents House District 16, which encompasses Logan and Todd counties as well as part of Christian County. Petrie grew up on a small farm in Clifty, Kentucky, with his parents and an older brother. He is self-employed as an attorney and resides in Elkton.
Education
Petrie completed his secondary education at Todd County Central High School, graduating in 1989. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Philosophy from Berea College in 1993, followed by a Master of Arts in Humanities from Western Kentucky University in 1995. He received his Juris Doctor from The Ohio State University in 1998 and has practiced law in Kentucky since that time.
Political Experience
Petrie has served in the Kentucky House of Representatives since January 2017. He currently serves as chair of the House Standing Committee on Appropriations and Revenue. In the 2024 election cycle, he was unopposed in both the Republican primary and general election, winning with 16,503 votes.
As chair of the Appropriations and Revenue Committee, Petrie played an influential role in passing House Bill 1, which reduced the state individual income tax from 4% to 3.5%. For his leadership and advocacy for business interests, he was honored with the Kentucky Chamber MVP Award in December 2025.
