Amends the School Code and the Critical Health Problems and Comprehensive Health Education Act. Beginning with the 2024-2025 school year, provides that in every State-required health course for grades 9 through 12, a school district shall provide instruction, study, and discussion on the dangers of fentanyl. Sets forth requirements for the instruction, study, and discussion, and requires students to be assessed on the instruction.

Elgie R. Sims, Jr. is a Democratic member of the Illinois State Senate, representing District 17. He was first elected to the chamber in 2016. Sims earned his B.A. in accounting from Chicago State University in 1992 and his J.D. from DePaul University College of Law in 1995. Prior to his election to the Senate, Sims served as Assistant State's Attorney in Cook County. He also served as Budget Director under Illinois Comptroller Dan Hynes and was Director of Enforcement under Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White.read less
