He chairs the Senate's Health and Welfare Committee, as well as the Tobacco Settlement Funds Oversight Committee and the Drug Policy Task Force. Ellis also serves on the Appropriations and Revenue Committee; Agriculture Committee; Economic Development and Tourism Committee; and Natural Resources and Energy Committee. Prior to serving in the state Senate, Ellis was elected to represent the 79th House District in 2006 and reelected until 2012. As a representative, he held leadership positions as Co-Chairman of the House Agriculture and Small Business Committee and Chairman of the House Economic Development Committee.
