Darin LaHood is serving his third term representing Illinois’ 18th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. Prior to being elected to serve in Congress, LaHood was a State Senator in the Illinois legislature from 2011 to 2015. Originally from Peoria, he earned his bachelor's degree and law degree from the highly ranked Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. After law school, he worked as an Assistant U.S. Attorney and as an attorney at a private law practice in Peoria. LaHood serves on the powerful Ways and Means Committee which has jurisdiction over taxation, international trade, welfare, Social Security, and Medicare. He also serves as the Republican co-chair of the bipartisan Building Trades Caucus.read less
