Vernon G. Smith was born in Wahoo, NE in 1927. He graduated from the University of Nebraska and then taught economics at multiple institutions including CalTech. In 2002, Smith was awarded the Bank of Sweden Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel, for work in experimental economics, and in particular on the use of laboratory experiments in economics. His research transformed the way economists look at and study economic reality by pioneering the use of laboratory experiments in economics.read less
