Vanessa J. Summers was born in Jackson, Michigan. She worked as an elementary school teacher in Grand Rapids, MI before getting her J.D. from Valparaiso University School of Law in Indiana. Summers worked as a magistrate judge and in private practice before being elected to the Michigan Court of Appeals in 2002. She was also appointed to Michigan's Sentencing Guidelines Commission and served on the Michigan Judicial Tenure Commission.read less
