Travis Hackworth , a Republican, was born on June 5, 1975, in Richlands, Virginia. He serves as a member of the Virginia Senate representing District 5, which includes all of Bland County, Giles County, Pulaski County, Smyth County, Tazewell County, and Radford City, as well as parts of Montgomery County, Wythe County, Buchanan County, Dickenson County, Norton City, Russell County, and Wise County. A businessman and entrepreneur from Richlands, he took office on April 2, 2021, after winning a special election for the 38th district with 76% of the vote following the death of Sen. Ben Chafin. Previously, he served on the Tazewell County Board of Supervisors, where he was elected chair in January 2019.
