Tawna Sanchez was born on April 16, 1964 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She graduated Sandia High School in 1982. She received her B.A. in English with a minor in Journalism from University of New Mexico in 1987. Sanchez was a substitute teacher for Albuquerque Public Schools from 1994 to 1998.
