Steny H. Hoyer was born in New York City in 1939. He earned his B.A. degree from the University of Maryland in 1963 and also attended Georgetown University Law Center. Hoyer was first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1981. He serves as House Majority Leader, previously serving as House Majority Whip and House Democratic Whip. Hoyer is currently serving his 20th full term in the House, representing Maryland's 5th Congressional District.read less
