Robert L. Johnson is the founder of Black Entertainment Television (BET) and RLJ Companies. He served on the board of directors of RLJ Lodging Trust, Lowe's Companies Inc, and Discovery Communications Inc. Johnson founded BET in 1979 with a $15,000 loan.
