Robert B. Long is from Natchitoches Parish. He holds a Bachelor's degree. Long is an auctioneer and real estate broker. Long served on the Louisiana Board of Elementary and Secondary Education from 1996 to 2000. He was elected to the Louisiana State Senate in 2007 and served there until his retirement.
