Richard H. Smith was born and raised in Hackensack, New Jersey. He graduated from Hackensack High School before attending Rutgers University where he earned a degree in business administration. After working in the private sector for several years, Smith decided to run for public office. He was elected to the city council in Hackensack where he served for 8 years. In 2018, Smith successfully ran for mayor of Hackensack on a platform of supporting small businesses, improving infrastructure, and making city government more transparent. Smith lives in Hackensack with his wife and two children. He enjoys golfing, fishing, and volunteering at local charities in his spare time.read less
