Nydia M. Velazquez was born in Yabucoa, Puerto Rico. She earned a B.A. from the University of Puerto Rico in 1976 and a J.D. from the University of Puerto Rico School of Law in 1979. Velazquez was an adjunct professor at New York University Graduate School of Public Administration and Political Science. She was a special assistant to Representative Edolphus Towns before taking office for New York's 12th Congressional District in 1993.read less
