Mike Thompson was born in St. Helena, California on January 24, 1951. He served as an aide to then State Senator Peter Behr before working as a viticulturist and managing the family winery. Thompson was elected to the California State Senate in 1990. In 1998, Mike was elected to the House of Representatives from California's 1st Congressional District. He currently serves on the House Ways and Means Committee. Thompson is a member of the fiscally conservative Blue Dog Coalition and portrays himself as a centrist or moderate Democrat.read less
