Melanie Stinnett was born in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. She attended Dewey High School and later earned a degree in accounting from Oklahoma State University. In 2008, Stinnett won a seat in the Oklahoma House of Representatives. As a state representative, she served on committees including Appropriations and Budget; Energy and Technology; and Public Health.
