M. Teresa Ruiz was born in Newark, New Jersey. She earned a B.A. in Political Science and Criminal Justice from Drew University in 1997. Prior to her election, Ruiz worked for U.S. Senator Robert Menendez. In 2007, Ruiz was elected to the New Jersey General Assembly, and served on the Education Committee. In 2008, she was elected to the New Jersey Senate representing the 29th Legislative District. As Senator, she has focused on education and workforce development policy. Ruiz serves as Chair of the Senate Education Committee.read less
