Lyman F. Hoffman was born in Bethel, Connecticut. He attended Pomona College and the American School of Osteopathy. He taught school in Michigan before moving to Alaska in 1952 and establishing a medical practice in Anchorage in osteopathic medicine and surgery. Hoffman served on several medical boards and was elected to the Alaska State Legislature in 1960 and he served seven consecutive terms in the Alaska House before being elected to the Alaska State Senate in 1980 where he served until retiring in 2012.read less
