Luz Escamilla was born in Salt Lake City, Utah. She graduated from the University of Utah with a degree in journalism. She has served as a State Senator in Utah's Senate District 1 since 2013. Escamilla currently serves as the Senate Minority Whip. Her legislative focus includes public and higher education, intergenerational poverty, healthcare access, and air quality improvement.
