James Rashad Coleman is a native of Phenix City. He earned a bachelor's degree in Political Science from Alabama A&M University in 2008. Coleman served as an intern for Columbus Mayor Teresa Tomlinson. In 2012, Coleman decided to run as a Democrat for the Alabama House. He received over 9,000 votes in the general election but was unsuccessful in his bid. In 2018, Coleman ran again and this time defeated the incumbent to win the seat. He currently serves on the County & Municipal Government Committee; Urban & Rural Development Committee; and Military & Veterans' Affairs Committee.read less
