ABOUT
Hamida Dakane is a social rights preservation advocate running for the Kansas House of Representatives. She immigrated to Wichita from Ethiopia in 2001 in search of better opportunities. Dakane is a community organizer with Wichita's Faith Action and Hope Coalition. As a result of this work she says she has seen "firsthand the struggles facing working families." Dakane wants Medicaid expansion, fixing the foster care system, investing in public education, and overhauling the state tax system to "make it fair for all." Her key issues include living wage jobs, affordable healthcare, racial justice and equality. If elected, Dakane plans to be a voice for working families and underrepresented communities in the state legislature.read less
