Ghazala F. Hashmi was born in Lucknow, India and immigrated to the U.S. in 1977. She received her bachelor's degree from Georgia Tech and her PhD from Emory University. Dr. Hashmi taught in various universities including Juniata College, Roanoke College, and the University of Mary Washington. Her research focused on curriculum and assessment for students with disabilities and English language learners. She served on the Fairfax County School Board's Advisory Committee for Students with Disabilities. In 2019, Dr. Hashmi successfully ran to represent the 10th district in the Virginia Senate.read less
