Eric Van Roberts was born in California and graduated from San Diego State University with a bachelor's degree. He served on the Lakeside School Board and was a Rancho Santa Fe Fire Protection District board member. Van Roberts was first elected to the San Diego County Board of Supervisors in 1990.
