Delores Oates was born in Birmingham, Alabama. She earned her B.S. degree in Engineering from the University of Alabama in 1995. After college, Ms. Oates began working at a civil engineering firm where she designed bridges and roads. In 2002, Ms. Oates decided to go to law school at Yale University. She graduated magna cum laude from Yale Law in 2005. After law school, she clerked for a federal judge before joining a law firm in Washington D.C. She specialized in civil rights law. In 2018, Ms. Oates moved back to Birmingham and ran for a seat in the state legislature. She campaigned on increasing infrastructure spending and equal rights for all. Ms. Oates now serves on the infrastructure and judiciary committees in the legislature.read less
