She studied political science at Princeton University before going on to law school at Yale. After graduating law school in 2008, Farivar began working at a large international law firm based in New York City. She practiced corporate law, representing Fortune 500 companies. In 2017, Farivar decided to shift her focus and run for elected office. She returned home to Washington D.C. and campaigned for a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives. Drawing on her legal experience, Farivar emphasized issues like government ethics, campaign finance reform, and corporate regulations. After winning the Democratic primary in June 2018, Farivar continues advocating progressive policies for her district leading up to the November general election.
